Craps Superstitions
When playing craps most players consider it bad luck to change dice in the middle of the roll. There are five dice used on every craps table, and when not being used they are placed in a bowl in front of the croupier with the stick. If at any time the dice go off of the craps table, the croupiers are instructed to dump the bowl and offer the dice that remain to the shooter. If in the middle of a hot roll the shooter throws one or both of the dice off the table, players will often ask for the "same dice". The reason for requesting the same dice is to “keep the same luck”, to keep rolling with the same dice and to prevent the croupier from dumping the bowl with the remaining dice.
If you are on a hot roll at the craps table, the superstitions not only exist for the players; many casinos will attempt numerous tactics to “change the good luck” that the players might be experiencing. The next time you are on a hot table, watch the dealer as they pull the dice to the center of the table after a roll. Often in an attempt to change the luck, you might see them “rolling the dice” with the stick. By doing this, they push the dice over twice with the stick. The total of the dice will remain the same, and the numbers showing on the dice will be the same, however the outcome of the next roll has most certainly been affected. To avoid this from happening, ask the dealers at the craps table to "please not roll the dice"…….ever!
When playing craps you will also notice that the dealer will never pass the dice to a shooter with a point total of 2, 3, 7, or 12 as it is considered poor etiquette and bad luck. It is equally important when the dealer collects the dice after they have been thrown, to keep them on the same total unless a craps or seven is rolled, in which case the dealer would be expected to change the total that is showing on the dice.
If a player yells out "Seven", most likely many players will remove their money from the table as it is considered unthinkable. Players should never use the word seven, or even refer to the number as “it”. In the event that anyone should say “seven” at the table you will find that some players will call their bets off, or simply cash out. You will also notice that the casino staff will never say the word “seven” unless that is the number that is thrown by the shooter, in which case it must be called out.
Female players in general, are considered good luck at the craps table. Female players who have yet to throw the dice in their life are thought to be lucky when rolling for the first time. Male players who have yet to throw the dice for the first time in their life are considered to be bad luck. The dice are considered cold when used by these players, and many players would not bet heavy on their first roll.
Ultimately nothing that you chose to do at the craps table will affect the outcome of the dice, however it is always good to be educated and informed in the event that you cross a superstitious line and get a dirty look from a fellow craps player. Now that you have learned the superstitions, you will not have to worry about most of them, as they will rarely apply at WannaBet, which is the beauty of playing in our online casino.
